Anyone know why the Tb28 turbo is so restrictive?

Anyone know why the Tb28 turbo is so restrictive? - 24/03/2015 13:44

Looking at it on paper it should produce good figures given that it has a 42.6/60.1 compressor wheel, decent turbine and compressor AR. The Mitsubishi Td04 15t only has a 42/56 comp wheel and the Hot side is only an AR .33 (or 5cm²). These TD04s see 270/280 bhp on 2.0 litre engines and can break 300 on a 2.3.

So how come we don't get these figures on the Coupes with what should be a better turbo?

there are lots of Coupes with TB28s running 250+ bhp, with quite a few at the 270-280 level

Just needs a remap and fuel pump wiring mod, plus maybe a panel air filter

Hoping to be a round that figure myself soon. Remap pencilled in for next month. K&N panel filter already in and FMIC going in next week. Will have to look into the wiring mod.

Its very important, as the voltage to the pump can drop at very high revs, which can make the engine run lean, with predictable results

You're welcome to come and see how I've done mine - easy, but fiddly

Might have to get it on the dyno to see what it makes after the map. Bought relay with socket and flying leads, 25A power cable and a 15A inline fuse for under a tenner delivered. I'll have no problem soldering the wires in etc but I'll have to research the best route from the battery to the pump/relay in the boot. Any help would be greatfully received.

Open the bonnet, see near the bonnet hinge.
There is a hole!
Put the cable inside this hole

Now, remove the side wings (3 bolts) and discover another hole, with a black plastic cover.
Make a hole in the plastic cover, and put the cable inside.

Push the cable and search it by inside the car, near the fuse box there is a hole in the carpet, put your finger inside and search for the cable!

If you find it, you can put the cable under the carpet, on the side of rear seats, and come to the luggage by the rear seatbelt passage.

If it is not so clear I can make some photos this afternoon, because I am doind the same wiring mod!

Can't wait to see the pics, looked many times for suitable route through for vacuum hose and permanent live for my EBC.

After just running both through the same route as pictured above to get behind the wing I had to just run them over the door seal as there were no routes into the shell other than a grommet hidden behind the arch liner right at the bottom in the sill for wax oiling crazy

Surprised I didn't get wet feet laugh

I've since just put in two 10mm grommets at about the same height as the ecu on the passenger side then gouped over with carbond as extra barrier.

Can take some pics tomorrow.

Hy guys, sorry buy fot the moment only photos with no guide.
Today was and incredible day.. TWO TYRES fault!
I made an incredible pit stop in 52 minutes to change all 4 tyre putting on the summer tyres... I am so sad and so tyred..

In this moment I am starting for a week end far away from my pc and my Coop, so for this moment I give you the photos.
Maybe next week I will make a guide, otherwise if some one wants to comment my photos, no problem!

Photos are here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/kw37vt6fva8jsdr/AAB6EaLmXMGhqm9y4KdLbDv6a?dl=0

And the guide with the explaination of the rele' is here http://goo.gl/IBirwr

Please note that because in my case the car gone fault (fuel pump off and tyres, in the same day!!!) I tried to make the relais command, but in my car no eletricity in the luggage, so take a guide for connect the relais, and use my photo to pass with the wire from the battery in the front to the luggage.

Note: you need 7 meters of wire of 35mm2 of section, I don't know UK conversion (2 AWG), you have to make it yourself. In the photos I forgive to take the fuse, but remember the fuse!!!
And use standard fuel wire to give the command to relais

I hope that them can help you!

Ran power to the boot using this method. Very easy. Thanks.

Pehaps the standard turbo isn't so restrictive after all. Not sure why my Coupe hit such good numbers? Quality fuel, K&N panel filter and FMIC are my guess. There was plenty of fuelling left too.
