Polished head and remap question

Polished head and remap question - 23/09/2014 13:17

Hello,

I've rushed myselft and bought a port&polished 20vt head (from a coupe owner that switched to Stilo 2,4 head and needed the money). I don't know the exact spec of the work done, only that it was made to mid spec by a reputable local mechanic/expert.

My car is stock (t28 turbo, smIC, airbox, exhaust), but I've got a full service and engine rebuild coming up - the oil pressure's on the low side, and I plan to refresh the engine bottom end.

I'm having second thoughts on installing the head or not. If I do install it, do I need a remap?
If everything else remains stock, the fueling for the extra airflow (due to less restriction) should be adjusted by lambda on part throttle, and measured by MAF on WOT... or am I wrong?

you can't go wrong with fitting the head
if made by someone that know what to do
no need necessarily remap, you will not get the best
but with a nearly stock car it doesn't differ too much
i did it 10 years ago on my former coupè so don't worry

Thank You for the reply.
I know I won't see much benefit without the remap, but for now I'm getting the engine rebuilt... I plan to get a remap in the future, once the engine has been run-in and covered some miles.

I'm having second thoughts because I don't know will a ported head mess up the fuelling (too much air = higher EGT & related problems) or will the ECU catch up automatically!?

Can anyone else share a thought (no offence mr.'burnbike')?

A ported head will not cause you any problems at all, absolute zero smile

Unless... it has been done by a 5 year old with a dremel, seen a few of those!

forum are made to share opinions wink
porting 4 stroke is a lot easier than 2 stroke
as above said you have nothing to worry about

2 stroke are not for engineers,it's like to an abracadabra work
i enjoy more a 2 stroke work than a 4 because
you can be lucky and find an awesome set up

i remember some years ago in 125cc Gp motorbike championship
an italian mechanic prepared the Capirossi bike(unofficial) a lot better
than Official Honda HRC and won the title
or a simple mechanic here in Italy did the carbs jet
better than official Mikuni set for the whole top rider's bikes

that's the reasons why the japaneses shift to the 4 stroke..
