Paint matching

Paint matching - 21/04/2014 20:58

Managed to get a slight scrape on one wheel yesterday. They're painted gloss black so gave the scrape a light rub down, masked it off and sprayed with Halfords gloss black paint.

From some angles it looks perfect, but from other angles it doesn't match with the Halfords paint looking more like matt grey.

Could it be that it just needs a lacquer coat on top? Not sure if they put a lacquer coat on when they were originally sprayed black, would that be normal?

Or is it just that the gloss black has to be the exact same type to match properly?

It may need lacquering. Try polishing it first with some g3. That might bring the shine out it the paint.

Thanks. I polished it up with a little t-cut and it's looking better. smile

Let the paint harden for a week or so, then try a bit more polish. Imo you'll never get it perfect.

Yes, to be fair it does say on the tin to leave it 2 weeks to harden before polishing.

I did lift a little of the new paint but I'd oversprayed anyway and it did lose the slight edge from the masking tape at least.
