Fuming!!...someone vandalised my coupe:mad:

I came out this morning to set off to work, and someone has purposefully keyed/knifed the entire lefthand side of the car, getting every panel right down to the bare metal. Not a start and finish point where it tales off, they have sustained the same heavy pressure from one end to the next.

I then looked at the bonnet, and they've also been drawing donuts, so badly that the paint is chipped off all over the place.

Half the car will have to be resprayed!!!

Unfortunately it's been keyed before (not to this level) so were going to have to sell it once the works been done. We just can't keep putting it right out of our own pockets.

Is there anything I can put on the heavy scratches temporarily to stop it rusting? I was thinking of putting some vaseline on it.

I'll post some pictures later....I know it's only a car, but we've had 6 years of coupe ownership....I feel sick.

Thats bad news. If you go to your insurance they will probably make you an offer on the car rather than have it sprayed.
Take it and offer to buy it back then resell it it as it will be unclassed and have the road tax and everything else a buyer is looking for so you will come out on top.
My Red Coupe was keyed bad.
If you want any more advise drop me a pm and I can go through it with you so you come out smelling of roses.
What pleasure people get out of keying a car is beyond me.
Your insurance will not be afected as you are not claiming for an accident but vandalism

All i can say if it makes you feel any better is I've had the same, someone keyed my car all down the side, bonnet, rear quarter, after a recent bodyshop repair too, so the car was looking great. I have managed to repair most of the scratch on the side to 90% (almost invisible) using a Mer scratch remover kit. However the scratch on the bonnet was to deep and i could not repair it.

Really made me furious, i checked the CCTV office in the shopping center but the area was not covered. I try not to think about it to much especially when you know you'll probably never catch the scum. I tell you, i was so angry i'm probably lucky i didn't catch them.

The chances are though it's probably kids causing this type of damage. I think it's just something you have to accept when you drive a nice car, it seems to be a magnet for this sort of stuff. I hope you catch them and this dosen't put you off coupe ownership.

Absolutely gutted for you mate, i would be horrified if anybody did that to my car, theyre such mindless scumbags, i will never, ever understand the logic behind it or why on earth someone thinks they have the right to damage your car just out of jealousy, its just disgusting and makes you think twice about where you park etc when you shouldnt have to have that worry. I hope you manage to get something sorted it out

It's just as often mindless boredom as jealousy - I used to drive a dusty old Saab that nobody could have envied, and had both wing mirrors smashed off it one night. I moved in part so that the Coop had a garage to sleep in.

Rotten feeling though - especially if it's not the first time it's happened... I hope you can find some alternative to parting with the car though, that just seems like salt in the wound... Are there any lockups for rent near you?

Really sorry to hear this mate I had a brand new car keyed like that, it wasn't even 2 weeks old.

sorry to hear that. just imagine though. if ANY car owner caught a fccuker right in the middle of keying their car.

As a car lover/enthusiast i cant think of many things that would get me more infuriated, i would have to run them over

Well there's nothing for the vandels to fear (other than you).
It's a world where you get fined £50 for overstaying a 30 minute parking zone by 5 mins.... but get a caution for shop lifting or assault ! Go figure!

so sorry to hear this mate. Happened to me in January though not quite to the extent of yours; problem is i knew the person who did it - but can't prove a thing.

If you don't want to get rid use some touch up if possible and buy some time (and money) ready to have a proper job done

My car got keyed hard all across the drivers side door and rear wing.
Im still hissed off proper and it happened just over 2 weeks ago.
I done a long post on here called "the day from hell"
People that do that to cars actually deserve there hands cut off, and I genuinly mean that, I hate them!

That's awful - can't we put these people on a remote island in the South Pacific or something?! This is why mine is in the garage most of the year & thus is now up for sale.

I daren't leave my Coupe overnight at my girlfriends - if it's not the seagulls crapping over it, it's people leaving the pub next door walking over cars! (yes, that's right walking/jumping over cars) This happened to one of her neighbours recently - ruined a decent Audi.

My sympathies cookie - I sincerely hope the wheel turns round for the perpetrators.

that's horable mate...ill be honest, it looks a little too time consuming to general vandalism, the side of the car, yep, the bonnet like that. it stinks of targeted vandalism.
I hate to ask but have you made any enomys of late, ex partners?

Exactly what we thought, but I'm an easy going guy and we haven't pissed anyone off to my knowledge.

The only feasible thing we can think of is:

In January last year a lady hit the coupe cracking the bumper in a 4x4. It was local to us. My girlfriend and the lady exchanged address and contact details. The husband who is in the trade wanted to fix it himself, not knowing them from adam we declined and said we would get it fixed locally (no insurance) and they get the bill — he didn't want to know about that, so we said we'd have to go through the Insurance.

At this point he turned aggressive and said we could take him to court as he wasn't interested. It was all left in the hands of the Insurance company but is still going on now apparently.

We obviously don't have any proof, so don't know if it's worth mentioning to our insurance company.

Back on thread, in the 80's I owned a Scimitar GTC which was parked behind a restaurant I was running.A group of shopfitters working on a nearby unit gave the waitresses maximum grief every day for a week and in the end I refused to serve them.
On their last day in town they kindly keyed EVERY panel of the Scimitar.
So I guess not much changes !

...If it were me I'd mention the ongoing claim about the 4x4 to the insurance company, and that you've had grief from the guy... there probably isn't anything they can do but as it clearly isn't casual vandalism there might be some mileage in mentioning it?

i had some one throw what looks to me to be lighter fluid or somethin like that on my bonnet one day have not got round to respraying it yet cos it needs £££ to do it

Yeah, I know, I'm no better than the people who keyed cookie's car, but by God, no one would key my car twice!

Its a shame! Seems to be Coops that always get keyed! Its my worst nightmade to get mine keyed

I'd never ever key anyones car, even if i really hated them and it was a rust bucket!

I had an experiance like this.

I had my coupe for about 3 years and I wanted to sell it for one reason or another, I put it up for sale in autotrader and after 2 days some guy phoned and we arranged a viewing.

I went outside in the morning to clean the car and get it ready viewing and to my horror some dickless moron had keyed the whole of the drivers side. from front bumper to rear bumper.

It cost me £500 to get it sorted and that was through mates rates as I used to be in the bodyshop trade.

It had happend before to a lesser extent like wing mirrors being puched and I was relieved to see it go and be replaced by a brand new company car, which (touch wood) has never been touched.

I think it's just jealousy. Whatever the reason it's so unfair, it makes you feel so angry and keeps you awake wondering whats going to happen next.

As if checking/worrying about the oil isn't enough!!

Thanks for all your responses, it really is a good forum and I will miss it IF we decide to sell the coupe once the works done.

We got a quote, for cash this morning, from a bodyshop I've unfortunately had to use before due to keying.

Between £600-700 was quoted, which although is alot, isn't as half as bad as I was thinking. If we proceeded through insurance, by the time we loose our £250 excess, plus our protected NCB, plus an increase in premium — the additional £350.00 is probably about even.

What a hassle though.

That is a lot of hassle for something which is totally not your fault and done by some scumbag that price isnt too steep though giving the damage theyve caused.

Bad news for you.

Someone keyed both my cars once -now that is fuming x 2!!
