Oh no! Not good to see a Coupé on a low-loader & be saying goodbye to it, hopefully not because it no longer drives under its own power?? Who's bought it?

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Re: End of an era? - 05/08/2015 08:39

Not sold. Severe knocking from the engine whilst running. I'm suspecting the worst, but hoping for the best.

The annoying thing is, I've just had over £1k a work done on her including clutch, rear trailing arm bearings, rear springs, front ball joints, two front tyres... A week later and it does this. Not happy, but I'll do what I can to keep it on the road - cost dependant.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers guys.

Hope it's not too serious & is back on the road quickly. Haven't seen you on the road around Peterborough for ages, although you wouldn't notice me as I'm no longer Coupé powered cry

Re: End of an era? - 06/08/2015 18:04

Cheers, Jas. Really? Why not? What you got now?

I've finished work earlier for quite some time now to cover our service window, so I head to my parents in Yaxley for Tuesday tea earlier, hence I miss you on the A15 now smile

Anyhow, the garage called and advised that it doesn't seem to be the engine. Phew! There's a possibility it could be the manifold though as there are a lot of exhaust gases coming from under the bonnet - they haven't had chance to strip it back yet though.

I'm assuming the sound I'm hearing is merely the engine combusting through the possible crack in the manifold?
Can it really sound that bad? It seemed to be noisier when cold, which would make sense.

Does anybody have any personal experiences with cracked manifolds/gaskets etc??
What's the best resolution if this is the case? Weld it? New manifold? What sort of costs should I be looking at?

Thanks!

Solo Italia

Not sure how competitive price wise compared to having yours welded

Nice one.
I've had her 8 years this month.

I retired my Plus last November, a lot of things were wearing out, she needs a full respray and various rust issues underneath sorting. Got this as my daily driver now:

Yep, bringing her back to former glory slowly but surely, starting with a full rear end strip & rebuild with suspension, brakes, bearings, etc.

Mechanicals yes, sorting the worst of the corrosion will be entrusted to a pro!

Re: End of an era? - 13/08/2015 16:38

OK. So, it's not the engine smile However, I do need a new manifold and gasket.

What's the best thing to do here? Buy a standard cast iron manifold or go for a stainless steel product? I don't know what the difference is or even if there IS a difference. Advice required, please. Thanks.

I retract this question. Just read it's best to stick with the OEM job.

Agreed?

Re: End of an era? - 13/08/2015 16:52

Yes stick with an OE cast manifold, stainless are prone to problems when fitting and cracking on the welds after they've been through a few heat cycles.

Thanks Joe. Will do.

Re: End of an era? - 13/08/2015 21:08

When you said loud knocking from the engine I immediately thought big end bearing. Thank god it's only the manifold, although not cheap on the turbo. On the Na's the manifold from the marea fits I believe so nice and cheap.

Re: End of an era? - 14/08/2015 16:52

I've been quoted £943+VAT for a brand new one from Fiat in Italy.

No way am I paying that. So, does anybody have one? I'm ideally after a brand new one. What do we have?

Thanks.
