Happy New Year, it's been a while! I still lurk around here but don't post often however we have a new (to us) Fiat in the family and I have a question.

MrsWishy has recently acquired a 2016 Fiat 500 1.2 which has just thrown an engine warning light and limped home. The nature of the light in the manual points directly at the catalytic converter so that will get booked in next week but it begs a question. What is the best diagnostic tool to use on these cars for any future issues?

I'd like to be able to read codes, clear them and get an accurate picture of what the fault is.

I've had the likes of this ODBII reader in the past but always found them next to useless as the generic codes are rarely specific enough to help.

For my Saab I got a VCX-Nano which has been great and gives the Saab specific error details which can be linked the relevant workshop manual section. I'd like the Fiat 500 equivalent of this (i.e. gives decent information, connects to my laptop and costs less than £100).

Would this sort of thing fit the bill? Any 500 owners on here with any experience? I notice that device lists coops too.

I'd just buy a cheap Bluetooth Obd scanner personally and get the torque app if it's only for checking DTCs for the engine. I doubt even Fiat genuine diagnostics would give you much more usable information for an engine light.

Trick with the standard OBD codes is to Google them. Each one can only be caused by a handful of bits
