The beginning of the nineties was a new era for Fiat, the company was repositioning and almost the whole array of products was to be renewed and refreshed.

It all started back in  1993 at The Brussels car show where the Fiat Coupe was received by the public for the first time. Many magazines had already featured the new Fiat Coupe.

The coupes engine was derived from the Lancia Delta Integrale and chassis from the former Fiat Tipo platform. The interior comes from the Pininfarina hand, which is why only the scripting 'Pininfarina' and not the 'f' plate with the flags is found on the car. Great freedom was given to the designers and although wearing the Pininfarina logo, its exterior was designed by Chris Bangle, who later moved from Fiat to work for BMW where he later designing the M3 Cabrio, second generation Z3, the Z8 and the X-Coupe prototype.

From the front bulged headlamp covers, the wheel arch slashes and the sleek race-style quick release petrol filler cap the Coupe was described as a car which you could take apart and drop every single part in a museum as a piece of art. The Coupe really deserves an Italian name that starts with an F... Fiat, with a history of sport cars throughout the years.
